WEST NILE VIRUS SURVEILLANCE

WEST NILE VIRUS SURVEILLANCE

County Wide West Nile Virus surveillance begins the week of May 20 and will continue until the first frost in the fall.

Approximately 60 traps a week are deployed throughout the county Monday through Wednesday night. Traps are retrieved the following morning, potential disease carrying species are separated and tested for West Nile Virus and other diseases such as Western Equine Encephalitis. Surveillance results are posted weekly on our webpage.

Traps that are used to collect mosquitoes are baited with C02 (dry ice), hung from trees or in other sheltered areas where adult mosquitoes tend to congregate.

For information on West Nile Virus testing, call our office at (208)461-8633.
